Naaman, a Syrian army commander who suffered leprosy, was told by Elisha to dip
himself seven times in the Jordan River and was cleansed (2Kings)

Jesus followers also baptized those people who joined them.
This practice had a Jewish background. In the time between the old and new
testaments, people who became converts to the Jewish religion were baptized, or
immersed in water, usually a river, as a sign of cleansing.
John the Baptist baptized many people as a sign of their repentance and their inner
cleansing by God.

John baptized Jesus
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the
Jordan and when He came out of the water, immediately He saw the heavens open
and the spirit descending upon Him like a dove, and a voice came from Heaven:
"Thou art my beloved son: with thee I am well pleased ". ( Mark1-9-11).
